Creating Waves of Awareness

The moon has always fascinated mankind and holds a mystical place in the history of human culture: be it the Mayan civilization, Egyptian civilization, or for that matter all civilizations. The Islamic, Chinese, Hindu and partially the Hebrew Calendar use the lunar cycles. So many religions have embraced the lunar calendar, I find this fascination not without reason.

The gravitational powers of the moon and the sun combine to create tides on the earth's oceans. The gravitational effect is so strong that our planets surface is stretched daily by this tidal effect.

All the celestial objects, stars, planets, give out frequencies. These frequencies affects us in varying degrees on the mental and spiritual level. The frequencies emanating from the moon affects us on the subconscious level, which may surface to our conscious mind.

MOON AND ITS EFFECT

When comparing the new moon and full moon; the affects of the new moon are less noticeable. However, we find more negative effects from the new moon. The reason for this is that on a new moon the effect on human beings is more at a subtle level as opposed to the full moon, where one is aware of the increase in thoughts.

According to scientific reviews, the full moon, it seems, changes the behavior of human and animal minds. It has been observed that during full moon nights the moon creates a tidal effect (due to magnetic forces of earth and moon) on oceans, which is also 80 % water of the earth's surface.

We know that our human body is 80% water; as such, has a great impact on an individual's intellect and thinking. Women are especially affected. Their monthly menstrual cycle are said to be linked to the phases of the moon. It is to be observed that women's menstruation cycles at 28.5 day intervals, whereas the moon's cycle is 29.5 days. They seem to be closely linked. A synchronous relationship between menstrual cycle and lunar rhythm has been confirmed by investigative data.

The full moon has an effect on sleep for some individuals. One study has stated, “the moon was a significant source of nocturnal illumination that affected the sleep-wake cycle tending to cause sleep deprivation. This could have caused mania in certain people with bipolar disease. It could also cause epileptic seizure on individuals suffering from epilepsy.

There are a lot of “myths” associated with moon and its phases, such as, on the full moon a lot of accidents occur, more male children are born, and there are more visits to psychiatric institution. But they should be taken not seriously, but with a pinch of salt.

Though the subject is intriguing, the fact still remains where homeopathy has a part to play where symptoms are associated with moon phases.

The VAC System

One of the proponents of this field was the late Dr Prakash Vakil. He specialized in treating patients by taking symptoms concerned with moon phase; such as, aggravation or amelioration. He used two other parameters, color and cough. With these three parameters he would confirm the similimum when the case had been analyzed and remedy can be found. His VAC system is now part of the Radar software.

Earlier homeopaths such as Boger also used moon rubrics for his cases. The moon's effect has been used since time of Hahnemann, not only that, moon rays has been converted into Homeopathic medicine also.

Now I will show what and how he utilized moon phases for analyzing.

Phases of the moon considered were 1: New moon, 2: Waxing moon, 3: Full moon, 4:waning moon, and 5: Moonlight.

Remedy listings of many medicines under its VAC system of Prakash Vakil are as follows:
New Moon Agg, 51 medicines, Apis, Ars, Calc, Caus, Cina, Cup, Puls, R Tox, Nux, Phos, Sep, Sil, Sulph All grade 1 medication, 2&3 not mentioned

Moonlight Agg 8, Only 1 remedy with grade 3, Sulph
Amel, 2, Only 2 remesies, both grade 1, Aur, Vanil.
There are other rubrics under Moon in Radar, but here I have only touched upon medicines and rubrics which were in practice by late Dr Prakash Vakil.

It would be worth while to explore this aspect of homeopathy and share your experiences here or in some discussion category, at HWC. Happy reading.

  • Madonna Lily {Lilium candidum} - Annunciation lily, Juno's Rose — Giftcard - The Madonna Lily is a symbol of purity in the language of flowers. Grandville depicts her as a royal bride (included in illustration, front) but the white lily is more frequently associated with the Madonna. Paintings of the Annunciation, from late medieval and Renaissance through to the Pre-Raphaelites, frequently depict the Angel Gabriel offering a stem of white lilies to the Virgin Mary. The old herbalists wrote of the lily as being under the dominion of the moon. In DH Lawrence's Sons and Lovers, tall white lilies, encountered in a garden by moonlight, appear to be reeling out of the darkness, stretching towards the moon; their grandeur, luminosity and powerful scent, filling the air, creates the impression of a mysterious, beneficent presence. Chinese herbalists have long used the Easter Lily Lilium longiflorum as a medicine for diseases of the female reproductive system. In Western herbalism, Lilium candidum is used in a similar way, for cysts in the ovaries and breasts, and for menstrual problems. The English herbalist and gardener John Gerard recommended lily root to expel afterbirth and for its general cleansing action on the female reproductive system. Used externally, the lily has been applied to abscesses, burns and boils, having cleansing, anti-inflammatory, scar-healing properties. This is a flower of purification and for establishing an elegant balance between the material and spiritual aspects of life. The flower essence is recommended for those who wish to prepare themselves for conception; those who find intimacy difficult; and for those struggling with an inner conflict between their sexual and spiritual nature.

Today,s Miami Herald had the following news item under " Health and science"

"Scientists at the University of Basel, Switzerland say they have found the first reliable evidence that sleep patterns are influenced by lunar changes. The study, published in Current Biology, shows brain activity related to deep sleep in volunteers dropped by 30 percent around the full moon. The study subjects also took longer to fall asleep.

Scientist have attempted for years to find a link between the moon,s impact and human behavior."

I am honored that this blog got "featured", I never expected this. The addition Rumi's quotes by Debby , has added a lusture of its own. Debby, yes, Rumi was a great Sufi saint the world has seen. His philosophic thoughts are extremely deep and takes one into deep world of spiritualism. Another poet and philosopher was " Omar Khayam" who beside being a poet and philosopher was a great mathematician and astronomer. His translation of "rubayat" or quartet by Edward Fitzgerald if I remember correctly is a classic.
