INDIA CELEBRATES WORLD HOMOEOPATHY DAY 2016
Homoeopathic fraternity worldwide celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German Physician, who discovered the principles of Homeopathy two centuries ago and developed it as a gentle healing system of medicine, as the World Homoeopathic Day. During this day, the fraternity organizes various symposia, road shows, medical camps and conferences and memorial events to popularize the strength of Homoeopathy. In 2016 LMHI, the international professional body of Homeopaths, designated India to organize the World Homeopathy.
LMHI Indian Chapter with support of AYUSH Ministry has organised International Convention
on 9-10th April 2016
H.E. Shri Pranab Mukharjee Hon’ble President of India to inaugurate the International Convention
at Vigyan Bhawan on 9th April 2016.
The objectives of this convention is to deliberate on the existing scenario of Homeopathy in India and other countries, develop strategies for formulating national policies; strengthening the existing base of safety, quality and effectiveness, , high quality medical education, Interdisciplinary and international research co-operations, evidence based clinical practice and to promote appropriate integration of Homoeopathy into health care system in different countries to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
THEME of the Convention: “INTEGRATING HOMOEOPATHY IN HEALTH CARE”
As World Health Organisation(WHO) Traditional Medicine Strategy 2014-23 states that universal health coverage (UHC) is only possible by integrating Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) services that includes Homeopathy into the health care delivery. The purpose is to ensure that every individual has access to promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services of effective quality at an affordable cost to achieve the “highest attainable standard of health” outlined in WHO’s Constitution and in the concept of Health for All.
Homoeopathy today is a rapidly growing system and is being practiced almost all over the world. In India it has become a household name due the safety of its pills and gentleness of its cure. A rough study states that about 10% of the Indian population solely depend on Homoeopathy for their Health care needs and is considered as the Second most popular system of medicine in the Country. It is more than a century and a half now that Homoeopathy is being practiced in India. It has blended so well into the roots and traditions of the country that it has been recognized as one of the National System of Medicine and plays a very important role in providing health care to a large number of people. Its strength lies in its evident effectiveness as it takes a holistic approach towards the sick individual through promotion of inner balance at mental, emotional, spiritual and physical levels. Beside India Homoeopathy has been included into National Health policies in various countries including Sri Lanka, Great Britain, Pakistan, Bangladesh and recently Swiss Govt. has also given it Legislative recognition. It is estimated that about 14% of population are opting for Homoeopathic treatment throughout the world.
We can realizes the acceptance for Homoeopathy with the statics of Rs.135 billion worth Homoeopathic medicines are sold with annual growth of about 25% every year. Pharmaceuticals companies which were only 13-15% of market share has now increased to 25-30%. According to Market Research Group Miltal Homoeopathic market at the end of 2012 was 46 million pound. WHO accepts that in the last 40 years all studies conducted about their efficacy Homoeopathy is at par and at some places even higher. Today awareness about Homoeopathy and its practice is available in more than 110 countries including developed and developing countries.
HOMOEOPATHY IN INDIA
Homeopathy continued to spread and by the beginning of 20th century most of the important
cities in India had Homoeopathic dispensaries. The popularity of the system led to a mushroom growth of doctors practicing Homoeopathy. The Govt. of India passed a Central Act in 1973 Homoeopathy now has been accepted as one of the National Systems of Medicine in India.
Though born in Germany, Homoeopathy found a very fertile ground in India and it is embedded here as its motherland. The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy was set up in l978 as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for the formulation, coordination, development and promotion of research on scientific lines in Homoeopathy. It is fully financed by the Govt. of India.
The Council, as of today remains a premier organization engaged in organized research in Homoeopathy. There are 38 Research Centres under the CCRH conducting research in various aspect of Homoeopathy. Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory, Ghaziabad was set up as a National laboratory for the purpose of laying down standards and testing for identity, purity and quality of Homoeopathic Medicines and is recognized as scientific & technological institution by the Department of Science & Technology. 65 Homoeopathic Laboratories are recognized and registered under the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratories. Homoeopathic Medical Care in India is provided as Primary Health Centres, Districts Health Centers Joints Health Centers, Homoeopathic Medical Colleges, Homoeopathic Hospitals, Private sector Hospitals, Individual Homoeopathic Clinics Private Nursing Homes. After the launch of NRHM, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken several steps for strengthening health care facilities by integrating AYUSH systems in national health care delivery systems. The integration is facilitated by appointing or co-locating AYUSH doctors & supporting staff and creating infrastructure according to local needs. Nearly 65% Community Health Centre’s had been collected with AYUSH facilities till 2011. All the CHCs existing in the states and union territories of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Nagaland, Orissa, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry had been co-located with AYUSH facilities., whereas, the states having more than 50% of the CHCs co-located with AYUSH facilities were Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Tripura and West Bengal. The states having more than 25% but less than 50% of the CHCs co-located with AYUSH facilities were Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The states having less than 25% CHCs co-located with AYUSH facilities were Madhya Pradesh only. About 40.4% Primary Health Centre’s had been co-located with AYUSH facilities till 2011. All the PHC existing in the Union Territory of D&N Haveli, Daman & Diu and Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir, A& N Islands, and Lakshadweep have been co-located. The States/ Union Territories having more than 50% of the PHCs co-located with AYUSH facilities were Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Manipur, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Tripura, States having more than 25% but less than 50% of the PHCs co-located with AYUSH facilities, were Karnataka, Meghalaya West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The states and union territories having less than 25% of the Primary Health Centres co-located with AYUSH facilities were Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Homoeopathic Education in India is marching ahead to lead in the World through the efforts of the Central Council Of Homoeopathy. Today Homoeopathic education is provided through 196 colleges which are under 49 Universities including 6 Medical University has Homoeopathic faculty. 12750 students in BHMS course are annually admitted in Homoeopathic colleges all over the country. 1139 Students undertake post graduation (MD Hom) in PG colleges and now PhD in Homoeopathy has also been started. Homeopathy has achieved such respect that the Government of India including all State Government have separate health care system running parallel to the Allopathic system of Medicine. Indian Government has gone to the extent of creating a separate Ministry for AYUSH systems which includes Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidha and Homoeopathy. Recently created National AYUSH Mission speaks of the patronage and concern for alternative medicines including Homoeopathy by the Government. Homoeopathy in India remained a focused system of Medicine by all sectors.

Presently, Homoeopathy is practiced in more than 80 countries in different form, officially recognized and system of medical specialty in Central and South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Argentina, Perugue), North America ( USA, Canada, Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh , Nepal, Japan, UAE, Russia, Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia etc.) , Australia, Newzeland and Europe (Germany, France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungry, Romania, Norway, Holland, Switzerland, Potugal, United Kingdom,Check Republic, Bosnia, Slovania.)South Africa, Cuba, Ghana, Nigeria etc.

Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI), an international homoeopathic medical official forum, to promote best of homoeopathic practices along the globe by interaction and sharing of knowledge. India has a globally acknowledged footprint in Homoeopathy and has hosted four World Congresses of the LMHI, the last of which was in 2011. The Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI), established in Rotterdam in 1925 and represents homeopathic physicians in more than 80 countries all over the world. The purposes of the association are the development and securing of homeopathy worldwide and the creation of a link among licensed homeopaths with medical diplomas and societies and persons who are interested in homeopathy. The LMHI is exclusively devoted to non-profit activities serving philanthropic benefits. Homoeopathic physicians of India feel proud to be a part of LMHI Indian Chapter.
About Ministry of AYUSH
Ministry of Ayush is a governmental body in India purposed with developing education and research in Aayurveda (Indian traditional medicine), Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy, and other alternative medicinal systems. The Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H) was created in March 1995 and renamed as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November 2003, under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. In 9th November 2014, the Ministry of AYUSH is formed as a separate ministry with a view to provide focused attention to development of Education and Research in AYUSH systems.
About CCRH: Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) is an autonomous organization of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, with 28 units spread across the country. The main thrust research areas of the Council are: Survey, collection and cultivation of medicinal plants; Drug Standardization; Drug Proving; Clinical Verification; Clinical Research; Epidemic Management; Collaborative Research; Extra-Mural Research; Documentation & Dissemination. The Council has undertaken an extensive research in these areas to establish Homoeopathy in every aspect.
About CCH: CCH has been constituted by the Central Govt. of India in 1974 with an objective to evolve minimum standards for Admission, Duration of course of training, details of curricula & Syllabi of studies of Homoeopathy, uniform title of degree and diploma, uniform courses of study and maintenance of Central Register of Practitioners of Homoeopathy. It also lays down the standards of professional conduct, etiquette and code of ethics which are to be observed by the practitioners of Homoeopathy. It also recommends to the Government of india about the recognition or withdrawal of recognition of Medical qualifications granted by Universities, Boards.
National Institute of Homoeopathy is an autonomous organization for providing undergraduate and post graduate education in Homoeopathy. It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata. It is a model teaching institution under the Ministry of AYUSH (www.nih.nic.in)
Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory (HPL) established in 1975, functioning under Ministry of AYUSH for the quality management of Homoeopathic drugs. It's main functions are to set standards and testing of homoeopathic medicine and publish Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia. (www.hplindia.nic.in)
