Creating Waves of Awareness

Happiness Is Contagious Do You Have The Happiness Factor?

Let's all think, speak and act positively.

As homeopaths, we also search for the way the brain works.

Shawn Achor touches upon fake data and what researchers do when data falls outside the mean. They eliminate it. Did you ever take a class and ask the teacher to remove your lowest grade? Easy! They want to see the average, or rather, they do everything to make everyone 'average.' Instead of viewing the uniqueness in each person, the median reduces the special features where we can raise all of humanity up higher plane with our talents, skills, insights and individual characteristics.

We must lift our spirits.

What about medical training? We experience the same phenomena. As we read and study, we seem to feel as if we all have the strange illnesses that we have just read. How can we change our self perception so easily? If we can feel sick by reading about an illness, what about the reverse? Can we feel well be reading about good health?

What are the possibilities that become realities from the strange and what seems impossible? When we challenge ourselves, when we challenge the average, when we challenge the commonplace.

Shawn studies the science of "happiness." If you know everything about your external world, it is the way the brain processes and perceives your world.

Demographic statistician can analyze job success, happiness and satisfaction. What are the factors that affect this success outcome? When we find the answers, let's use this information.

You Take The High Road
As homeopaths we must also take a close look at the positive and successes of our clients. What could we learn from looking at the positive aspects, in addition to the negative? Could the client actually leave the office feeling better without taking a remedy?

Simple Techniques Can Create A Better World
How do our brains work? Let's use the "happiness advantage." I might even call this the placebo effect. We could have more energy, be more flexible and adaptable simply by thinking in the positive. Shawn calls it a formula which uses our natural chemical to train our brain and rewire our brain to promote better outcomes.

Journaling For Good Health
How simple could it be to ask our clients to journal the good things that happen each day, partake of a few minutes of meditation to focus and quiet the mind, and practice a good deed each day. How wonderful would we all feel.

We believe that we should work to be happy, but could that be backwards? In this fast-moving and entertaining talk from TEDxBloomington, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that actually happiness inspires productivity.

What do you want to change about your life?

Start doing one thing differently, consistently, every single day.

In a talk I gave 3 years ago, I called this doing qigong.

Practice makes perfect, or it makes it into a habit.

Shawn compares this practice to the family computer game called 'Tetris" and how it affects the brain's behavior.

A cognitive after image occurs for those who play this game. Homeopaths look for patterns, and our brains continue to find patterns in nature.

What he teaches, masters would call creating good habits. What you do over and over again repeatedly trains your brain to continue this type of pattern. We usually make analogues to practicing piano or sports.

He explains that losing skills can be a good thing. Thus, when we focus on one particular type of habit then we can create the way we want our life to be based upon the skills we practice.

Positively 4th Street Lyrics played and sung by Jerry Garcia Band

Lyrics and music by Bob Dylan

Some soulful music that feels so sad.

You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down
You just stood there grinning

  • Standing by watching when someone needs a hand,
you can imagine they feel alone, betrayed, abandoned

You got a lotta nerve
To say you gotta helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
The side that's winning

  • What emotion does this express, " you gotta lotta nerve"
Have you even said that before?
Just when a person is down is not the time to leave

You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
If you're so hurt
Why then don't you show it

  • Who let who down?
We know how easy it is to hide and cover our feelings
Especially when we've been hurt or in pain

You say you lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You had no faith to lose
And you know it

  • Sounding so angry. When we lose faith or believe others have lost faith.
Sometimes people feel that God has lost faith in us, leaving us feeling hopeless

I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
You're in with

  • Feeling left out, kicked out, tossed aside and betrayed
    lost a friend

Do you take me for such a fool
To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don't know to begin with

  • Its so confusing when a break occurs.
How easy to feel foolish and humiliated

You see me on the street
You always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck"
But you don't mean it

  • Unnoticed, unacknowledged, unrecognized
    Insincere feelings

When you know as well as me
You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once
And scream it

  • Completely stuck, unable to move from this place of deep depression
All he can do is scream unable to cry

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
Perhaps I'd rob them

  • His answer being polite. He'd take those hurts away if he could

And now I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
Don't you understand
It's not my problem

  • Feeling compassion and empathy, he waves the responsibility
knowing each person has to deal with their own problems

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you

  • Everyone wants to be understood
Does he want the other person to be him, or rather he wants to be the other person?

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

  • How does it feel to be me?

Let's learn from the happiness doctor. How could we turn the sad song around?

I think that is a great idea Dr Rafeeque. Provide positive reading material in the outer waiting rooms and offices, with comforting photos and videos showing.

Medical students often "suffer" from the syndromes they have just read. But the opposite is rarely seen! I wish all sick people feel healthy after they read about good health. If this is possible, i will keep Physiology and Anatomy books in my visiting room, but never pathology and textbooks of clinical subjects :)
