Creating Waves of Awareness

Miami Herald of 27th May 2013 carried a headline, “LOW COST VITAMINS MAY DELAY DEMENTIA.”

Being old myself, it attracted my attention and I went through the news with deep interest. I would like to share some of the abstract of the news but first something about dementia and Alzheimer's.

Dementia is a loss of brain function that occurs with certain diseases. Alzheimer's disease is one form of dementia that gradually gets worse over a certain period of time. It affects memory, thinking and behavior. Elderly citizens are more prone to both dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Some of the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's:

  • Memory loss

  • Recalling recent events

  • Trouble finding right words

  • Problem carrying out tasks.

  • Trouble exercising judgment.

  • Depression

  • Not keeping up with personal care such as bathing etc.

Now let me share with you the abstract of the news. It does give hope for the future.

“A cheap regimen of vitamin use for decades is seen as a way to delay the start of Alzheimer's disease and dementia”

“In the latest of a steady drum beat of research that suggests diet, exercise, and socializing remains the patient's best hope, a study published last week in the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that Vitamin B6 and B12 combined with folic acid showed atrophy of gray matter in the brain areas affected by Alzheimer"s disease.”

“Delaying dementia with an inexpensive vitamin regimen may help stem the surge in cases which WHO predicted would more than triple from 36 million world wide in 2010 to 115 million in 2050---”

“It is the first and only disease – modifying treatment that worked," said Dr Smith a professor at Oxford University England. He further adds, “We have proved the concept that you can modify the disease.”

Having mentioned the findings, it is my personal opinion and belief that if the conventional medical and scientific world, which is hell bent upon “homeopathy bashing,”  can find that vitamins work, why can't they do sincere and truthful clinical trials of homeopathic drugs.  Homeopathy has a proven track record of “like cures like” medicines, which number in the thousands and has been accepted by the official pharmacopeias of the world, with examples for Alzheimer's and dementia also.

But, the truthful fact is that there is no big money in Homeopathy, at least for now, which “big pharma” would like to make, and even in few cases they find that marketing of influenza medicine “Oscillococcinum” and “Traumeel” for trauma and pain is acceptable as it has found a niche in sales.

So to say that Homeopathy is placebo or even poison is sort of a diversion tactics, and to add to that, it can not scientifically be proved is also a ploy to keep it on the side as long as it takes.

In any case homeopathy has survived, (and prospered in India, Cuba and Pakistan and other countries) lived up to its reputation (in millions of clinical verification around the world) and will not only prevail but keep gaining its ground.

Now coming back to the topic of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, let me mention from Murphy's Repertory, the number of drugs that can be applied in treating the two diseases, totals 45.

Grade 1: HYOS

Grade 2: Agn, Alum , Anac, Arg met, Arg nit, Aurum I,

Bar c, Con, Crot h, Kali brom, lil tig, Lyc, Ov, Phos.

The rest are Grade 3 which I have not mentioned.

It is to be noted that application of these drugs will depend on the individual's totality of symptoms and personal characteristics.
