Creating Waves of Awareness

In order to understand disease, we must know what is health in its real sense.
In the healthy condition of a person, the vital force, the dynamis that animates the material body (organism), rules with unbounded sway, and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable harmonious, vital operation, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, mind can freely employ this living healthy instrument for the higher purpose( Organon Aphorism 9)

Aphorism 9 must be read along with Aphorism 10, with its footnote.:"
The material Organism, with out the vital force is capable of no sensations, no
function, no self-preservation-----------and the footnote" It is dead and
now only subject to the power of external physical world; it decays, and is
resolved in to its chemical constituents.

The material organism is always in intimate relation with external physical
world, consisting of light, heat, cold, air, water, food materials, various
poisonous materials, various forms of germs, friendly, inimical, or indifferent
etc, etc. .So long the vital force is in full power and rules with unbounded
sway, this external physical world can't affect it. Rather Vital force retains
all the parts of the organism (beginning from its chemical constituents, cells,
tissues, organs) in admirable, harmonious ( i.e. free from all disproportion or
any form of relative excess or deficit in activity or composition or structure
of the any of the constituents of the organism, among themselves or in relation
to any of the constituents of the external world.)Vital operation( i.e.
nutrition, growth, development, reproduction, selective utilization of
environmental factors, elimination of waste products and so on.)

All these sensations and functions, entail some conscious or subconscious sensations, which in a state, of health, reflects, pleasant and congenial feelings. A slightest deviation, if occurred, start indicating or signaling the deviation of these sensations, which in turn get not only expressed in words, but also by various expressions of the whole body, especially the face and the eyes.

However in ideal state of health, the indwelling, mind can freely employ this living healthy instrument for higher purpose of our existence As already mentioned any deviation from the state of health is immediately signaled to the sensations, but in actual life most of these signals are
neglected by the organism, so long as these are not intolerably intense, or
until the condition passes on to the next step of functional disorder or even
structural or constitutional disorders. Following reasons may contribute to
such disorders:

A. Often the disturbances of sensations are too insidious and too mild to draw the notice of consciousness (This happens mostly in sycotic cases)

B. The mind and sensorium are too callous to notice these signals( again a sycotic trend)

C. The environmental factors, or stress and strain of life are so intense that sensorium and mind hardly find any opportunity to notice these signals, and even if noticed, one may not pay any heed to them.

D. Repeated suppression of these sensorial or functional signals, with various forms of palliations, until the signals are blunted and the disease, all the while proceeding further and deeper, effecting
structural/organic changes.

Thus if a thorough check up is made on any person with apparent health, there will always be many indications or signals of disease in emotional plane( Mind), sensorial plane( Nervous system) functional plane ( physiological, immunological etc)structural plane(tissue, organs)
constitutional plane ( biophysical, biochemical)

As no two things are identical in this universe, no two persons can have exactly identical norms of health, so there exists, a wide range for each of the criteria for health, both real and apparent.

Now perhaps we can understand that what disease is. The meaning of the disease has ben expounded in various aphorisms of organon, but primarily in 11 to 16 and 7.

DISEASE IS NOTHING BUT A DYNAMIC DERANGEMENT OF THE SPIRITUAL, SELF ACTING (automatic) ALL PERVADING VITAL FORCE.

It may be caused by dynamic influence of any mobific agent( miasm) and not by any removable exciting or maintaining cause( mechanical, chemical, physical, physiological, psychological etc)

Manifested to the sufferer by various feelings and sensations (subjective symptoms) and to the other persons,( objective symptoms)

Orthodox, school, on the other hand, basing itself on crude pathology, fails to comprehend, dynamis and dynamic activity. Their idea of disease is material constituent of the body, beginning from cells to body fluid to tissues and organs and the changes caused by some living or non-living
external poison, infecting the body. And each set of material changes is given a
disease name .The advocates of orthodox school strive to keep their mind shut
against any prior cause of those material changes and try to explain away the
cause, which makes the offending organism, which had been ineffectively lurking
inside or outside the body of the host, turn active and infest the latter. Various
inflammations or degenerations or ulcerations, excess or deficit growth etc are
taken as actual diseases.

After understanding the disease definition of Homoeopathy, we can very well understand the difference in therapeutic diagnosis of Orthodox school and Homoeopathy. Our prescriptions
are solely based upon subjective and objective symptoms rather than name of the
disease.

Thanks for the details.
Our syllabus also includes a number of modern medical text books. At a time, we study both concepts! Do you think that the concept of disease mentioned in these books can misguide the students?

Dr. Rafeeque,
Thanks a lot for your valuable comments.
The concept of disease mentioned in orthodox books is also essential, because of two counts:
1.Diagnosis of the disease in order to know the prognosis of the case.
2.To eliminate common symptoms, for the selection of remedy.
No Homoeopath can do justification to his work, unless and until, he has a sufficient knowledge in the positions( Anatomy) and functions( physiology).
But on the contrary when it comes to therapeutic diagnosis in Homoeopathy, gross pathology, got no or little value, in selection of homoeopathic remedy.

Dear Doctor Kuram,

"All these sensations and functions, entail some conscious or subconscious sensations, which in a state, of health, reflects, pleasant and congenial feelings."

In fact, this is the state of health, when we don't need any medicine. In such a stage a person is perfect, it is an ideal state of health. We all strive to maintain such a harmony. But unfortunately, due to various reasons, and today's complex world, we rarely get such a state of perfect health.
