Creating Waves of Awareness

[In the present situation writing a chapter on homeopathic care of pregnancy seems to be redundant. The obstetric science and the maternity practice has so advanced that no niche has been left for homeopathy. And the people have accepted it. In the urban population, in every country, no pregnant woman thinks of going to a homeopath for advice and treatment of ailments incidental to pregnancy. They, as routine, get themselves registered with the maternity department of a hospital, or a maternity home. These homes have their definitive procedure and settled routine to cater these patients

A good long part of rubrics concerning the complications of fetal growth and intricacies of labor have fallen to disuse as redundant. Homeopathy cannot vie here. And we should not have any grudge for that. This is an advancement of science; and everybody should welcome it. Many pathological conditions that used to be common occurrences have become the relics of the midwifery of yore. Puerperal convulsions and eclampsia are no more problems now. These and such complicacies are forestalled and therapeutically precluded in modern maternity practice.

But the malpractices in the garb of advancement of science should be guarded by vigilant and knowledgeable homeopaths. Unnecessary C-Sections, and perineal tears, and many such practices should be examined. The beauty and benefits of natural birth cannot be equated with surgical procedures, which lead to physical maiming and devastation, and life-long crippling effect. The abiding pain at the site of the epidural injection can give a lifelong backache.

Homeopaths have an important role to play during the ante-natal period. They can help save the expectant mother from nausea, vomiting, anorexia, insomnia, phobias, depressions, funks and countless other ailments incidental to this period. Homeopathy has always excelled in this field and will always excel and shine.

The most important role that was given to a homeopathic physician by the old sage, Hahnemann, was to miasmatically treat the expectant mother. This is the time, as Hahnemann has pointed out, to free the mother and the child, from the miasma of the ages. One should carefully and distinctly determine the chronic miasm of the pregnant mother, and give the anti-miasmatic shots, interspersely.

Select, e.g., from psoric medicines, for the enceinte, who used to have scanty, late menses with lot of pain; and bland leucorrhea, among other general psoric symptoms. And a preparation of Tuberculinum for a woman, who used to have copious, prolonged and bright red menses; with other complications occurring during this period, as diarrhea or constipation, before or during menses.  The leucorrhea of such patients is purulent, yellow, lumpy, and of disagreeable odor. The labor of such patients is difficult, tiring and prolonged.  There would also be habitual abortion.  In Sycotic patients the pains would be spasmodic and colicky; the flow acrid, excoriating and fishy in smell. The leucorrhea would be dirty green, burning, and excoriating, and same smell. There would also be pelvic pathologies as tumors and ovarian cysts. Pelvic cancers and habitual abortions, and mal-formation of fetuses, should be considered Syphilitic.

More about this sometimes in future.  I’ve avoided discussing the labor rubrics for the evident and above-mentioned reasons.  ---MAU]
