The center of homeopathic education offers B.Sc (Part Time). Although the course is of FOUR YEARS OF DURATION but it actually offers only 10 days of teachin on 10 weekends. Definitly the students who will qualify this course will write B.Sc (in homeopathy) with his/her name with duration of course four years.

I do not think, you should seek admission in such type of course that has no practical skill development or training. You need to get admission in full time B.Sc course where atleast standard cradit hours should be completed.

2ndly you must see whether the course is accredited or not.

Homeopathy cannot be studied nor practiced Part time. There is no such thing as part time husband similarly you can be a homeopathic doctor not a part time homeopath.

Most of Homeopathic colleges specially in USA, CANADA and Europe are offering part-time, weekend base or sometime seminar based study. I think this approach can only give a bird eye view to Homeopathic knowledge but in order to pursue as practitioner these colleges has to enhance their capacity and provide them full time study with clinic practice.

Thanks for the comments

Some time, when we point out the drawbacks or anomalies, which are found in homeopathy or continuously prevailing for many years in homeopathic system then people take it as negative approach. They think that pointing an irregularity is an attempt to send harm to system or it will give bad name to homeopathy but I think, this pointing an irregularity is actually a try to put it REGULAR. How it can be turn into regular, when you will start pointing to the problems.

Some body very clearly says that

IF YOU ARE CAPABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM THEN YOU CAN ABLE TO FIND THE SOLUTION AS WELL. Finding exact ruberic means patient is half cured. :)

This is a good topic and more will be discussed about the types and qualities of preparation to become a homeopath. Of course, it is a life time of study. A devotion. A passion. Finding a good teacher, mentor and course of study is imperative.

Remember, many take it up for self-healing and general interest and knowledge, rather than a profession. In the same way, many study an instrument, painting, organic gardening, glass-blowing or whatever as an interest, not as a profession. We should separate the two types of study.

In Pakistan, few pharmacies publish advertisement of homeopathic medicines in public newspapers. Although according to Unani, Ayurvedic and Homeopathic Act 1965-2002 of Paksitan, publishing of medicinal ads is prohibited. Laypersons get inspired and attraction from these ads and start taking medicines at their own, after reading little about homeopathy. When they do not get relief then they build an opinion that “HOMEOPATHY IS FRAUD”.

Many patients consult us at our clinic and very boldly say, “We have extensively used homeopathic medicines as well but got no relief” Actually what they normally do. They read few books and get certification from business oriented certificate and degree DISTRIBUTING agencies (homeo colleges) and become homeopath. Pull towards ads and start prescribing medicines.

I do not understand, even a highly professional needs good knowledge and skill to find a remedy, how can a layperson can suggest a true similimum remedy for him/herself. We have to condemn self-medication in homeopathy as well, even it does not have major side effects.

In Pakistan two types of certificate and degree courses are running

1. DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic System of Medicine)

It is four years duration course after matric (10th grade)/F.Sc (12th Grade). Matric Students have to clear Chemistry, Biology and Physics as extra subjects.

The course is recognized by National Council for Homeopathy Ministry of Health Government of Pakistan.

After Completion of the course, NCH issues DHMS certificate and qualified homeopathic doctor after getting internship from Government Hospital or from already qualified homeopathic practitioner get RHMP (Registered Homeopathic Medical Practitioner) from NCH

Any university/school/college can get affiliation with National Council for Homeopathy Ministry of Health Government of Pakistan subject to the condition that the syllabus is also approved by NCH Pakistan. For that purpose, a proper procedure has to be adopted first before issuing affiliation. That is little bit difficult and time consuming because other agencies are also involved who issue no objection certificate.

DHMS course has been running since 1965. About 1 Lakh and 80 thousand DHMS doctors have been produced. (.2 million)

DHMS are also eligible to apply for license in UK, Germany, USA and UAE or in other countries after the completion of country own practicing requirements.

There are about 140 homeopathic colleges which are recognized by National Council for Homeopathy Ministry of Health Government of Pakistan conducting DHMS classes. Maximum have good facilities but few are the black sheeps which are harmful for the system. But it is ok. Due to public awareness now system is start improving.

In Pakistan two types of certificate and degree courses are running

1. BHMS (Bachelor in Homeopathic Medical Science)

It is of the following types.

a. BHMS (Graded or Condense) Degree Course 2 to 3 years for DHMS qualified “HOMEOPATHIC DOCTORS”

b. BS (Hons) in homeopathy from WUU Karachi.

c. BHMS (Classified or Full) Degree Course for fresh students on the basis of F.Sc (12th Grade) qualification as Pre-Medical.

d. M.Phil in Phytomedicine from Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB)

Islamia University Bahwalpur, Peshawar University Peshawar and Jamshoro University Hyderabd Sindh are conducting degree courses. Wafaqi Urdu University is intended to issue BS honours degree in Homeopathy in February 2010.

Islamia University Bahwalpur is conducting five years BHMS degree course to produced classified homeopathic doctors. After the completion of BHMS degree course, homeopathic doctor has to get one-year certificate of internship from Government Hospitals. The same can get admission in M.Phil Program also. Each university has to get affiliation with NCH (National Council for Homeopathy) otherwise license / RHMP is not issued. IUB is an affiliated university of NCH. All courses are REGULAR and 80 percent attendance is must otherwise Examination forms are rejected by the controller exam.

Peshawar University Peshawar have produced more BHMS qualified homeopathic doctors then IUB. It is the pioneer univeristy that first started BHMS graded course. In this regard, Col (R) Dr. Iqbal Shaheen efforts are commendable. Today Peshawar University is conducting both courses condense (Graded) and full Degree Course (classified).

Islamia University in my region has adopted the same syllabus that is taught in MBBS colleges / universities beside all homeopathic subjects i.e. Philosophy, materia medica, Case taking & reperterization and homeopathic pharmacy etc. Students of this university are less practical as compared to MBBS but more competent on academic level then MBBS as they have to study full MBBS course plus homeopathic course completed in five years. Less Practical in the sense that MBBS doctors have to complete extensive job in hospitals but there is no such need for homeopaths becuase there method and philosophy and management plan is entirely different. For our BHMS degree holders one year internship is enough. ;)

In order to enhance more standard of homeopathic education. IUB has not stopped BHMS Graded course and only conducting five years full Classified Degree Course on F.Sc eligibility.
