Dr. Benveniste on the Memory of Water in Homeopathy

Benveniste published his findings on the memory of water in the Journal nature in 1988 under the title "Human Basophil Degranulation Triggered by Very Dilute Antiserum. Todate, the orthodox scientific community blackballed him. The citation to his article in Nature has been suppressed and preprints are very hard to find.

Thank you Dana! I respect your amassed work in homeopathy and your comments here. Perhaps I used some inflammatory language when I said "suppressed" in the above post. I just delivered a lecture on Vitamin D to about 230 doctors and part of my presentation had to do with statistical methods used in clinical research and how Pharma funded research is designed to distort study results. This is of course on the heels of Merck being fined for the fictitious The Australasian Journal of Bone and Joint Medicine to boost its sales of Vioxx. many of these studies were ghost written (as are an enormous number of regularly published articles in medical circles). It turns out, as well, that Pfizer employed the artful writing services of Scott Reuben, MD who falsified "scientific research" to bolster sales for Celebrex.

I guess my point here ... which I may have overstated ... is that Big Pharma will do anything to defend its turf. I believe that pharmaceutical research coming from the United States or any other pharmaceutical supported center should be viewed with suspicion. As a general rule, I am of the sway that "research" is unfairly used against the CAM movement, not because it lacks efficacy, but because it is dangerous ... dangerous to Big Pharma.

Moving to another, and for me, more interesting issue ... I believe that ALL MEDICINE works better under subjective conditions. Amit Goswami, PhD and his comrades in the "Quantum Physics in Application to Health" would state that we live in a subjective universe. I think intention has power here. And, it has power for homeopathy as well.

I have a very deep interest in agrohomeopathy. I have been reading the available database in this area in English (and there is very little), Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. What strikes me, especially in the Spanish, it the comfort the researchers have with allowing "intention" enter into their research.

So in the final analysis, did a member(s) of Benveniste's lab intentionally or unintentionally falsify or "alter" data ... we may never know. However, I would tend toward Benveniste (may God rest his soul) any day. I would trust James Randy only as far as I could throw him across the room using telekineses.

And all this for my grand and glorious conclusion ;-) .... perhaps homeopathy requires a different set of research methodologies than the ones that currently exist and as developed by pharmaceutical researchers. And, perhaps the power of intention and the bond that exists between doctor and patient could enhance outcomes for patients.

Warmly and respectfully,

In due respect, Andrew, this citation has not been suppressed. This is a long and complicated story that included an attempted replication that did not have positive results. Read my article called "Science Friction.",123

This IS a complicated story...and no one should try to simplify it. Newer efforts to create similar but different trials on basophils have had several positive results but some negative ones too.
