Dear Madeeha,
I don't think one should avoid certain food items like onion, coffee, citrus fruits etc. because it has been observed that homoeopathic medicines act even though onion, coffee, tobacco etc. are consumed.
Unless a particular item in food or otherwise, is known to antidote or hamper the action of the drug administered, there is no necessity for it to be avoidable.
(Aphorism 259-261)

Though these substances may sometimes exert a medicinal influence that diverts the vital force from making the response that we desire it to make to our choosen remedy.

we see this phenomenon of "antidoting" well described in the classical literature. Open up Hahnemann's Materia Medica Pura, for example, to its first alphabetical listing:-

Under Aconite: "Vegetable acids & wine antidote its effects, and so do other medicines which correspondpalliatively or homoeopathically to some of its troublesome symptoms."

Under Belladonna: The erysipelatous swelling caused by Belladonna are readily removed by Hepar Sulph. Camphor, too display much antidotal power against some of the morbid effects caused by Belladonna.

Under Ignatia: Coffee is serviceable as a homoeopathic antidote...

So, the issue is, that a "spurious" medicinal substance that overlaps with our remedy in "partial similitude" to the case can divert the response of the vital force to our choosen remedy.

Hi Madeeha,
here is an interesting article about this subject with which I fully agree:
http://www.hpathy.com/papersnew/castro-antidotes.asp

As our remedies act on a higher energetic level they are most unlikely to be interfered by food which acts more on the biochemic level (unless you give very low homeopathic potencies).
But food and drinks known to aggravate the patient should be avoided in general until the remedy acts favourably and the patient becomes less susceptible towards their detrimental influence. Other types of food to avoid are such which are known to be medicinal substances as they may cause proving symptoms if consumed in abundance or prolonged, as coffee for example.

Many (including a few homeopaths) are under a wrong impression that coffee is a universal antidote to homoeopathic drugs. Infact Hahnemann has mentioned only one drug that will not act well, if coffee is taken during treatment(psorinum).

The truth is, homoeopathy can be used for the ill effects of these substances

Madeeha posted:"Tell me ...if can

My reply;
This is actually a two part problem.
Let me address the first;(many have already commented on the second point)
When a patient comes in for help with RA symptoms does the homeopath have enough knowledge to discuss dietary overhauls? Most DO NOT,many practicioners say"oh yes you can eat what ever you like your remedies will fix everything....................."
Patients with chronic RA factor symptoms need to abstain from ALL THE nighshade family of foods,example-no tomatoes,no eggplant,no potatoe-as these all cause extreme aggravations in RA patients-Why do you ask? because these create nitric ACID to form in the joints, cause severe inflamation and the build up of crystal deposites. Even with the well indicated remedy prescribed the patient still suffers if this dietary protocal has NOT been addressed by the homeopathic practicioner.
This is ONLY ONE example- there are endless examples where dietary habits are the maintaining causefactors of the road to recovery.

Lets broaden this subject just a bit;
Most homeopathic practicioners have NO clue as to what is good for the human body when it comes to dietary modalities. For this insight patients need to see a naturopath or a nutricionist. So why not help your patients and absorb more knowledge on dietary imbalances that do harm overall.
Lets cover the issue of PH levels (Alkaline+Acid PH) can be tested with a testpaper, you can do it or the patient can do it themself daily.
Many of us eat/drink only because of habits "because we like it",great for those NOT sick,NOT great for those asking for help, you as a practicioner need some sort of imput to pass on to your patients.
short list
1-NO ONE NEEDS coffee-causes acid PH levels
2-NO ONE needs dairy-Causes Acid PH levels
3-NO ONE needs RED MEAT-causes Acid PH levels
4-No one needs ALcohol-Causes Acid PH levels
5-No one needs SUGAR-causes Acid PH levels
You as a homeopathic practicioner would do your patients unjust if these were NOT addressed.
I can post more if anyone is interested-

This information can be found on any googlesearch, this is just one example-taken from the previous posted link-(no its nOT my website just the first link that popped up using google)
Health problems caused by acidosis
Research shows that unless the body's pH level is slightly alkaline, the body cannot heal itself. So no matter what means you choose to take care of your health, it won't be effective until the pH level is balanced. If your body's pH is not balanced, for example, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements. Your body pH affects everything.

Acidosis will decrease the body's ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease it's ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it's ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness.

An acidic pH can occur from an acid-forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a build up of acids in the cells will occur. Acidosis can cause such problems as:

Cardiovascular damage.
Weight gain, obesity and diabetes.
Bladder conditions.
Kidney stones.
Immune deficiency.
Acceleration of free radical damage.
Hormonal problems.
Premature aging.
Osteoporosis and joint pain.
Aching muscles and lactic acid buildup.
Low energy and chronic fatigue. Slow digestion and elimination.
Yeast/fungal overgrowth.
Lack of energy and fatigue.
Lower body temperature.
Tendency to get infections.
Loss of drive, joy, and enthusiasm.
Depressive tendencies.
Easily stressed.
Pale complexion.
Headaches.
Inflammation of the corneas and eyelids. Loose and painful teeth.
Inflamed, sensitive gums.
Mouth and stomach ulcers.
Cracks at the corners of the lips.
Excess stomach acid.
Gastritis.
Nails are thin and split easily.
Hair looks dull, has split ends, and falls out.
Dry skin.
Skin easily irritated.
Leg cramps and spasms.
