Creating Waves of Awareness

This is now a recognised ailment by the modern medicine. It is also refered to as stress cardiomyopathy, and is a non -ischemic cardiomyopathy. There is a sudden weakening of the heart muscles which is usually triggered by a sudden emotional stress like a death of a spouse/loved one or a financial loss etc. Hence the name “Broken Heart Syndrome”

It has been identified as a condition which can even mimic a heart attack. There is a severe chest pain, breathlessness, sweating, quite like a heart attack. But the difference being that there is no structural damage like those seen in heart attacks. There is a sudden pain in the chest with a bulging of the apex of the left ventricle of the heart. The possible cause is the release of high levels of adrenaline which is triggered by stress of various kinds; which causes a vascular spasm. An angiography at this stage does not reveal any blockages. However a major attack of this kind can be serious and may take as long as 2 months for the ventricle to come back to its original functioning. Otherwise the recovery can be within hours to a few days.

But what an irony! Homeopathy recognised this syndrome much before it got its name : Broken Heart Syndrome ! The only thing is that the Modern Medicine has now given a new name to this problem.

So our Homeopaths have to be prepared to treat such a condition since it does not come with any preceding symptoms...the heart "breaks" suddenly !

To deal with such a condition we have a host of rubrics in our Repertories and symptoms in the Materia Medica .

To mention a few:

MIND- Ailments from :

Grief, Dissappointed love, Loss in business, Death of loved ones, Honor wounded and many others..

As far as the medicines, they may be nearly a hundred. To mention a few Ignatia , Nat.Mur, Staph . Aconite and so on.

I am sure most of us may have experiences in treating such a condition. Do share your experiences with the members of HWC.

Our aim is to mend the broken hearts and keep it beating before it breaks!

Thank you for your input Gary and Rajiv. We all need to crack open the books and get busy reading. Become familiar with the remedies, their modalities, specifics and organ affinities so we know where to look when we begin to see an emergency situation.

Rajiv, I appreciate the idea that from the preceding emotional presentation (tearful, crying, sighing, moaning, anxious, etc) we can prevent and preclude a deepening of this emotional "broken heart" to affect the cellular and tissues to a pathological condition.

Dr. Gary is right in saying that we cannot be routinists. so we should not think of just one medicine alone. Do as the situation calls for, since each of the drugs mentioned have their own indications for prescribing.

I agree that this is a part of life as Debby has pointed out, but it does bring about changes in our body which at times can be serious. Since the Modern Medicine does not recognise any thing by symptoms alone they have to give it a name to every condition so that they can treat it, on the other hand we are treating the person not the disease!
To learn more about the individual is a latter task, what we need to know are medicines like Adreline, Amyl Nit., and even Aconite to handle the emergency situation.
It has been said about Homeopathy that it will be able to cure diseases which have yet to come…… see this is happening !

Two inhalations of Amyl nitricum Q can be helpful. It can dilate the constricted blood vessel.

Can this be that western medical system is recognizing that emotions can effect the body. Is there a reason they must 'label' everything. Can they find a pill for this 'condition.' Is this not just a part of life, that everyone learn to cope with death, a departed one, a loss, a break-up, being love-lorn or even having 'a broken heart.'

It would be important as a homeopath, to learn more about the individual and their sensations and particular mode of response to this situation in order to select the matching energy to repair and mend this heart.

Only the person can communicate that through language, behavior and gesture.
