Homeopathy Gets Freeped

Tuesday Neal's Yard a British chain that sells natural remedies, including homeopathy, agreed to take part in an online question and answer forum hosted by The Guardian. They soon found that they were overwhelmed by a swarm of aggressively hostile questions from opponents of alternative medicine. Neal's Yard ignominiously backed out of the scheduled session and their opponents… Continue

Ah, The Irony

A committee in Great Britain has issued new recommendations on recommended treatments for lower back pain and the recommendations will be implemented by the National Health Service. They concluded that alternative treatments work, while standard allopathic treatments for back pain do not:

From among 200 treatments and devices… Continue

The American Psychiatric Association is discussing whether to recognize bitterness as a mental illness. File this under allopathy catching up to homeopathy a century later. And someone mail the APA a repertory bookmarked at the mind chapter with a vial of natrum muriaticum and a note explaining that there are no illnesses, there are only sick people. And bitterness is one symptom that sick people… Continue

Flu Vaccine Problems

A new study shows that children receiving the inactivated flu vaccine (the most common form) have a higher risk of being hospitalized. This is worth bookmarking as they'll be tremendous pressure next fall for children to get the flu vaccination.

The Original Search Engine

If you think about it, the repertory was the original search engine. Long before Google, Yahoo, and Alta Vista, homeopaths were faced with a problem similar to that which made search engines necessary. The search engine user wants to find a web page with information on a particular subject. And the homeopath wants to a a remedy that has a particular symptom. There's been a lot of research into how to make search engines perform better. Much of this information is proprietary, but there is… Continue

Furious Seasons

Furious Seasons is a weblog that reports news on psychiatric medications from a critical point of view. The author is a reporter who suffers from bipolar disorder and was unhappy with the medications he was given to treat it. It's not an alternative health site by any means, but it's the best site to turn to for information about the dark underside of our overmedicated society. I wish their were sites this good for other aspects of allopathic… Continue

Egyptian Scuba Diving

This is so typical. Morgellons Disease is a poorly understood skin disease where foreign fibers or granules are found embedded in the skin lesions. What's the orthodox medical response to this condition? It's all in your head. It seems that whenever a medical condition comes along that has no explanation, the first response of the orthodox medical… Continue

Even Ben Agrees

The stink from the Merck drug trial in Australia continues to grow, to the point that even Ben Goldacre has caught a whiff of it. For those who don't recognize the name, Ben Goldacre writes an opinion column in Great Britain on "Bad Medicine" and has been a stalwart soldier in the campaign to discredit homeopathy. In addition to trying to discredit researchers who discovered problems with… Continue

Vaccine Reactions

The New York Times has an article about the cases of Guillain-Barré that followed the attempt to head off Swine Flu back in the Seventies through a vaccination drive. The article is notable in that this is one of the few cases I remember that conventional medicine has taken vaccine reactions seriously and the press has reported on them. Clearly there is a problem, the issue is, first, determining the magnitude of the… Continue

Washington Homeopathic Recognized

Joe Lillard and Washington Homeopathic Pharmacy have recently been recognized by the US Small Business Administration as the West Virginia Small Business Person of the Year for 2009. Read the article, it's great publicity for Joe and homeopathy.

V for Vendetta

The blog world is fueled on outrage. And the latest outrage among bloggers with a skeptical bent is the Huffington Post's advocacy for alternative medicine. If you've never heard of it, Huffington Post is a web news site with a liberal political slant. The site has also given space to alternative views such as articles on vaccine damage by Robert Kennedy Jr. and alternative treatments for swine flu. The zero tolerance policy of skeptics will not abide any talk of alternative medicine in their… Continue

It's an Ill Wind

As the saying goes, "It's an ill wind that blows no good." And the scare over the swine flu has increased sales of homeopathic remedies. Washington homeopathic has a backlog of one or two weeks to get their flu kit. Here's hoping that when the scare dies down people will take time to learn how to use their kit for colds and flu.
