Garla Smith, College Instructor, advocates to help mothers return to the workforce, teaches us all how to improve our resume to get an interview or placement for a job by tweaking our resume.
Garla Smith is CEO and Owner of Smart Moms, a Cary, North Carolina based company that helps businesses fill part-time, virtual and contract positions with skilled moms and dads. Smart Moms also provides resources for job seekers that are just re-entering the workforce such as classes, assessments, interview skills, resume writing and networking.
Garla is a regular contributor on two web sites. She is a guest expert on susanireland.com, answering questions from moms seeking to return to the workforce and leads the Mom Jobs Discussion Group” on Susan Ireland’s Job Lounge. She also answers entrepreneurial questions from students on F4K.com the Future for Kids website.
Prior to co-founding Smart Moms, Garla was a Manufacturing Engineer and Documentations Specialist for Hewlett Packard and Applied Materials. She received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and earned her MS in Mechanical Engineering (Concentration Manufacturing) from North Carolina A&T University. She has completed her Career Development Facilitator (CDF) training and is working as an Adjunct Instructor with Wake Technical Community College teaching job searching and employability skills to a diverse group of job seekers.
