Creating Waves of Awareness
Constipated People: Constipation is due to constriction of muscles and dryness of mucus membranes. There is suppression of desire to defecate. When the constriction of the mind goes to the rectal muscles, it leads to constipation.
Diarrheic People: They have no power to hold anything. They are basically powerless to face a situation. Similarly, the circular muscles can’t hold the contents in the rectum. Like their mental and emotional features, everything comes out in splashes!
Altered Bowel Habits: Here, constipation alternates with diarrhea. Similarly, their mind also fluctuates between opposite ideas and situations.
There is a hidden relationship between the mental features of certain remedies with the character of stools mentioned in the Materia Medica. It may be the different levels of expression of the similimum. But, such type of relationship is not always seen in most of the remedies. The relationship seen in some remedies are discussed here, because this approach helps to study Materia Medica.
Here, there is constipation with no urge to pass stool. Similarly, the Opium patient has no desires and complaints. The stool of Opium is dark colored. The mind is also dark.
The stool of silicea comes out partially and goes back (Shy stools). Similarly, the patient also expresses shyness.
Lycopodium stool is hard first, but comes easily when it becomes loose later. Similarly, the patient feels difficult to start one task, but he does every thing smoothly when he overcomes the starting trouble.
The stool of Pulsatilla is changeable. Similarly, changeability is expressed in the mind and behavior.
In Nux vom, patient is unsatisfied; there is frequent urge to pass stools. The same urge is there in performing duties and achieving goals. He is also unsatisfied with others, and there is marked fault finding nature.
There are certain remedies having just opposite relations:
Here the stool is narrow. But the patient is not narrow-minded; he is very open-minded and friendly.
The list never ends here. You can add more – both similarities and dissimilarities...
I like the pictures
All remedies with diarrhea have anxiety, -- but those with constipation have it too, -- If only homeopathy were so simple.
opium has diarrhea as well (third grade); silica can have both diahrea and constipation and can behave quite boldly, --
whatever the relationship may be ----?
Respected Dr, Thanks for the comments.
I have already mentioned in the article, "But, such type of relationship is not always seen in most of the remedies. "
When the reason for one symptom is explaned in terms of pathology or physiology, it is less important while evaluating the symptoms. Even In my article on Doctrine of signature, I had mentioned, "doctrine of signature helps for the study of materia medica, not for the practice of materia medica".
Similarly, here also there is no hard rule that the mind and bowels should express the same. That is the reason why I added one heading at the end of article: There are certain remedies having just opposite relations:
You have rightly pointed out the opposite relations in the same remedy! Such type of relations help for the study of Materia medica. Studying the remedies is really boring - understanding them is much easier and interesting!
Yes i understand --
>> "doctrine of signature helps for the study of materia medica, not for the practice of materia medica".
Why would I want to know that, if its of no use selecting the correct remedy ?
How do you study materia medica? What is boring when studying Materia Medica your way?
Ps.: here is another one: Lachesis has diahrea and verbal diahrea too. and Staphysagria has a pointed nose from masturbation. --
Don't hit me -- its nonsense, I know!
Initially I used to study materia medica just like studying some topics during school days. Once the exam was over, we used to forget everything. But now I try to remember the symptoms by relating with some individuals or events. In memory enhancing lectures they train us to relate the points with some events or by converting the points into a live story. By adopting this method, MM becomes live MM. I am trying to connect materia medica with other things only for the sake of study, not for remedy selection.
That is not nonsense, because, hereafter no one will forget the elongated nose of Staphysagria patient, and the purging of words in lachesis! I am 100% sure.
Thanks for the comments.
In Ayurveda (Indian system of medicine), they have slokas in Sanskrit that deals with treatment. It helps them to remember the name of ingradients, mode of preparation and administration.
I mean Studying MM like a subject in school. Live MM is more interesting. We can do this by comparing with other things.
It is not nonsense! Now we can easily remember the long nose of Staphy and purging of words in Lachesis!
Nonsense gives some sense!
Ameliorated by combing (headache)- Formic acid.
How to remember this: When ants (ants inject formic acid) get trapped on the scalp, combing is the easy method to remove them!
Ameliorated by fish: Lac can.
How to remember this: Even a barking dog becomes silent by offering a piece of fish!
There are different ways to remember materia medica....
